Gardaí have formally launched a murder investigation after a father of one was shot dead in Ballymun last night.
44-year-old Patrick Lyons was attacked on Belclare Terrace at around 9pm. His partner and mother of his 10-year-old son also recently passed away.
A motive has yet to be established for the attack but Gardaí don’t believe it’s gang related.
Ballymun Councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin Mary Callaghan of the Social Democrats says much more needs to be done to address crime in the area.
“Unfortunately people are engaging in serious types of crimes and ordinary people should not have to put up with the fall out from that”.
”Government need to supply more resource(s) from a law enforcement point of view, but also from a community support point of view, so there’s lots of really good local groups but we don’t have the type of investment and support that’s needed in order for the community to go from where it is now to a place where they can really feel safe and secure and have hope for the future.”
