Musician Nancy Wilson has claimed that it is "embarrassing" to be an American now.
The Heart singer made these comments while speaking to the Milwaukee Journal Sentimel, where she reflected on the US political landscape both at present and tracing back to the Vietnam War.
In a protest against the war, 1975 saw Heart release their famous track, 'Crazy On You', as a way of expressing their frustration at the situation, as well as the general state of the world at the time. “We were kind of embarrassed at that time to call ourselves American because of the dirty politics of the Vietnam War", Wilson said of the track in her new interview.
Despite this, Nancy Wilson has claimed that American finds itself in an even more bleak situation now.
“To be as subtle as possible, it’s more embarrassing now", Wilson insisted.
Referencing another Heart track, 'Barracuda', which arrived in 1977, Nancy Wilson also feels that this song which is about “a real sleazeball with a satin jacket”, resonates now more than ever, especially “in the salacious billionaire culture with the grab-them-by-the-p**** mentality".
That last quote refers to Donald Trump's second term in the White House as US president, where his controversial 2005 quote was made public in 2016.
This full quote, per the Washington Post, saw Trump brag about groping a married woman: “I did try and f*** her. She was married… I am automatically attracted to beautiful women. I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss, I don’t even wait… and when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything… Grab them by the p****. You can do anything".
When asked if she thinks that 'Barracuda' is still relevant in this current climate, Nancy Wilson remarked: “I think for women in the culture the pendulum will come back again, and there’ll be another renaissance in the arts to push back against the oppression of the cranky old rich white guys. I hope I am alive to see that next revolution".
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Nancy's sister Ann Wilson had been performing on stage in a wheelchair, following a nasty fall just days ahead of her tour. More on this from Nova here.
