A strange looking iceberg has been observed by NASA scientists. The berg is in the shape of an almost perfect rectangle.
The iceberg was seen adrift among sea ice just off of the Larsen C ice shelf. NASA asserts that the iceberg's precise angles and extremely flat surface, "indicate that it probably recently calved from the ice shelf."
A photo shared by NASA shows the block of ice measuring up to a mile long, impressively protruding from a sea of thin frozen water. It was found as part of the space organisation's Operation Ice Bridge.
Using research aircraft, the operation intends to document the Earth's polar ice. That’s to gain a deeper understanding of connections between polar regions and the global climate system.
Ice Bridge is spending several weeks measuring changes in Antarctic sea and land ice while flying under orbits of ICESat-2 to compare measurements.
