Netflix have cancelled the release of a new documentary about the late singer, Prince.

This comes months after those in charge of Prince's estate were trying to block this controversial nine hour film by Ezra Edelman from streaming on Netflix, which own rights to the project.

The Prince Estate have claimed that this documentary has misrepresented the late Purple Rain hitmaker.

Prince Documentary Cancelled

Now, a joint statement has been released by The Prince Estate and Netflix on social media, confirming that the plug has been pulled on this documentary.

However, they have agreed to work on a new project which will feature exclusive footage.

"The Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince's archive," they wrote. "As a result, the Netflix documentary will not be released".

Director Ezra Edelman has yet to comment on the matter.

Celebrating this agreement, The Prince Estate have shared a montage of photos of the late singer which are set to his 1982 hit, 'Free', which you can check out here.

"The Vault Has Been Freed. #FREE," they said in a caption.

Speaking of Prince, the singer was also honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award alongside The Clash. More on this from Nova here.
