The brand new Beatles’ documentary ‘Beatles 64’ is streaming to Disney+ right now.
Beatles 64 will explore the Fab Four’s 14 day excursion across America in February 1964, which saw them arrive at Kennedy Airport, New York on the 7th of that month.
Produced by Martin Scorsese, the film will also feature newly filmed interviews with Beatles pair Paul McCartney and Ringo as the documentary takes an intimate look at their story, capturing their camaraderie, including late bandmembers George Harrison and John Lennon.
It will also include 17 minutes of previously unseen footage, which was shot fly-on-the-wall style by Albert and David Maysles, and has been described by producer Margaret Bodde as having “so many intimate moments with the band, and also really intimate and revealing moments [with fans]”. Beatles 64 is a “beloved story”
Speaking to ABC Audio, Margaret Bodde also had this to say.
“A big goal for us with this film is to try to bring something new to a beloved story that has been oft-told”, she said.
She also added that audio from The Beatles’ live performances from that period has been restored.
“For the first time, you can hear how great the band is. They have so much energy. They’re such great musicians”, she revealed.
Elsewhere, director David Tedeschi said that Martin Scorsese was “beyond happy” to interview Beatles legend Ringo Starr on camera.
Tedeschi said: “For the first time, you can hear how great the band is. They have so much energy. They’re such great musicians”.
He also pointed to a moment when George Harrison confuses a reporter by naming ‘White Christmas’ as his favourite “rock song”, as well as footage of a fan who brought a monkey to greet the Fab Four in Miami.
He also added: “It gave me a real sense of the chaos … as George said [in the film], they were normal, and everybody around them went crazy”.
Speaking of Ringo Starr, the drummer seemed to confirm that Irish actor Barry Keoghan is to portray him in an upcoming Beatles biopic, directed by Sam Mendes. More on this here.
