Noel Gallagher has grudgingly declined an offer from The Libertines’ guitarist-vocalist Carl Barat.
Yesterday, Barat said that it would be fantastic if Gallagher produced the likely lads’ upcoming album.
We had our doubts that Noel would be interested in producing again, after he described producing his own record Chasing Yesterday, as a “a major pain in the arse”.
Speaking to NME about potentially working with the former Oasis member, Barat said: “I’m going to email Noel Gallagher. I know he’s really busy, but hopefully he’s got a bit of time for the Libertines who love him so. Noel’s Noel, isn’t he? I’d love to work with him. He’s hilarious, but he has such clarity of vision as well. That’s something the Libertines could certainly use.”
Unfortunately for The Libertines, Noel has turned down their kind request because of prior commitments.
In an interview with NME, Noel said: “We’ve exchanged a few emails but unfortunately they want to do it in Thailand. With the best will in the world, I’m on tour and I can’t do it. I would genuinely love to be involved but they’re going to do it in Thailand and I can’t be in Thailand.”
The Libertines are planning to release a new LP this year. Barat says that he and Pete Doherty have made major progress on the new album, revealing that the songwriting duo have penned five new songs together for the forthcoming record.
Pete recently completed his treatment at a Thai rehab facility. He left the Hope Rehab centre in Bangkok at the beginning of this year, after being treated for his well publicised heroin addiction.
The Libertines arrive in Dublin on Thursday July 9th to play the 3Arena. Tickets €49.50 incl. booking fee are on sale this Friday at 9am from Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.ie
