Public health officials say we can save Christmas if action is taken now to stop the spread of Covid-19.
The National Public Health Emergency Team will meet today. NPHET has said the country is now in a period of "exponential growth".
“Case numbers and hospitalisations are growing exponentially. The Reproductive number is now estimated at 1.2. If we fail to reduce viral transmission nationwide immediately, we could see 1,100 – 1,500 cases per day and 300-450 people in hospital by November 7th.”

It's predicted that the number of daily cases could exceed one thousand in a matter of weeks. People are being urged to "radically" reduce their social contacts in order to slow the spread of the virus.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, says that today's meetings will give specific consideration to Christmas.
While NPHET's Professor Philip Nolan says the next three weeks are crucial.
