RTÉ have been called upon to cancel the excellent series Normal People ahead of its finale here tomorrow night (Tuesday), as viewers are apparently to be treated to full-frontal male nudity and ‘the longest sex scene ever aired on Irish television‘!!!
Directed by award-winning Lenny Abrahamson, Normal People has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews in the UK, the US via HULU and also in Ireland, but has outraged a conservative minority here for its steamy love scenes between its young leads including Maynooth man and gaelic footballer of note Paul Mescal.
The young lead Connell played by Mescal bares all in his love-scenes with Marianne — played by British actor Daisy Edgar-Jones.
The ultra conservative Tridentine Bishop Michael Cox is one to express indignation at the proceedings happening in Normal People and has even suggested that shows such as Normal People are partly to blame for the coronavirus pandemic!
The Independent Bishop demanded that RTÉ cancel the series completely, saying it is “morally wrong“. Bishop Michael Cox told The Irish Sun that it will be “an outrage” for RTÉ to go ahead with airing the show, as “morally it is wrong“.
“Showing a grown man fully naked on TV? It would offend any right-minded human being. “Young teenagers will be watching this, even married couples in their own homes. It is outrageous and should be stopped”.
The incredibly popular TV series is “improper” and “blasphemous to the almighty God,” Bishop Cox continued. He went on to suggest that it could be responsible for the coronavirus pandemic, saying “I’m not surprised we have Covid-19 with this sort of stuff on TV”.
“Do I think these outrages are responsible for the Coronavirus? I think people should read the Bible and find out”.
RTÉ Radio One’s Liveline callers were apoplectic about teenagers ‘fornicating’ on national television last month upon the show’s first airing
Marianne was labelled a ‘tease’ and wanting to ‘boost her ego’ by having sex with Connell in the ‘filthy’ show.
Another said ‘it wasn’t right to watch children having sex’, adding that the show was ‘unrealistic’ as it’s not normal for 17-year-olds to known how to drive a car.
