The number of patients with Covid-19 in hospitals has fallen below 500 for the first time this year.
Last night there were 494 patients in hospitals.
The number of patients with the disease in ICU is also reducing slowly.
Speaking at a Department of Health briefing last night, Professor Philip Nolan said:
“The wave we’ve just had, that huge burden of disease is coming to an end, the impact on the hospitals is coming to an end.”
“We need to keep going in terms of bringing the case numbers down further to give us options for the future.”
