Ahead of their tickets going on sale for their comeback tour, Oasis fans have been reflecting on a time when tickets for the band’s iconic Knebworth shows cost them £22.50.
This comes after Oasis announced a shock return, confirming a string of shows across the UK and Ireland for next Summer, including two shows at Croke Park next August.
This will see brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher reunite on stage for the first time since Oasis’ split in 2009.
Following this announcement, Oasis have since added three extra dates to this tour, due to “unprecedented demand”. These dates will see Oasis perform extra shows at Manchester, Wembley, and Edinburgh. More on this from Nova here.
Oasis Fans Think Of Knebworth
Ahead of the upcoming ticket sale, Oasis fans have been reflecting on a time when tickets for their iconic Knebworth shows in 1996, cost £22.50.
The band performed two shows at the venue in August 1996, shows which 2% of the entire British population tried to buy tickets for, which was a new record at the time.
These shows took place on the 10th and 11th of that month, with each gig taking place in front of 125,000 people, with 2.5 million people attempting to buy tickets, making it the largest demand for a show in British history.
On these nights, Oasis were supported by The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, and Ocean Colour Scene.
“won’t cover Ticketmaster’s booking fees”
Some fans queued for tickets, some tried their luck via telephone of teletext, while others pledged to sleep on platforms, and implore older brothers to drive them to Scotland.
Recalling this time, one Oasis fan posted this via X: “I paid £22.50 to see Oasis at Knebworth in 1996 with Prodigy (#ripkeith) as one of the support acts, that won’t even cover ticketmasters booking fees this time will it?”.
Another fan added: “Lol, I got Oasis tickets for £22.50 + booking fee in 96, even though I queued for 15 hours & got them in person”, while a third looked back at how they got tickets in Gloucester the year prior for just £10″.
“Interesting to see how much the @oasis tickets cost. Saw them in Gloucester in 1995 for £10 and at Knebworth for £22.50! Happy times, happy memories”, wrote another.
Another fan added: “Oasis Knebworth 1996 £22.50 and the line-up included The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, The Chemical Brothers and The Charlatans, depending on which night you were there”.
Another remarked: “Campaign for anyone who has a gig ticket from back in the day to get priority !!Oh and for the price still be £22.50″.
A documentary on these record breaking Oasis shows at Knebworth was also released in 2022. More on this here.
A live album of Liam Gallagher’s special live performances at this venue was also released earlier this month.
