Ozzy Osbourne Bows Out With Thunder and Grace in Monumental Sabbath Reunion

Loading

Ozzy Osbourne — never merely a frontman, always a force of nature — ended his live career in a way only he could: seated on a gothic throne, rising through the stage, flanked by legends, and drowning in both adoration and distortion.

At 76 years old, with Parkinson’s disease and years of physical setbacks behind him, Ozzy returned home to Birmingham — the crucible of heavy metal — to deliver the final performance of his life. And he did it with the kind of conviction that made you forget, if only for a moment, that this man had been “laid up for like six years.” You’d never have known it. The energy, the charisma, the presence — it was still all there.

“It’s so good to be on this f***ing stage,” he told the sold-out crowd at Villa Park. “You have no idea. I f***ing love you all… You’re all f***ing special. Let’s go crazy, come on.”

The solo portion of the show — capped off by Crazy Train, naturally — was already monumental. But then came the reunion. For the first time in two decades, Osbourne was joined by original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. They played their greatest hits, culminating in a thunderous rendition of Paranoid that felt less like a goodbye and more like a final, volcanic act of defiance.

There were tributes from across the cultural spectrum. Elton John declared Ozzy “the king, the legend.” Ricky Gervais, naturally, recorded his from the bath. Fans across generations sent messages of thanks, crediting Ozzy and Sabbath for birthing an entire genre.

Ozzy didn’t just retire — he detonated the concept. He burned it in pyrotechnic fire and walked off into legend. A farewell? Technically. But it felt like myth in motion.
