Patti Smith has shared an update on her health amid rumours that she was taken ill and suffered an injury at a recent gig.
This comes following footage of the punk legend performing at the Teatro Cultura Artistica in Sao Paulo, which showed her sitting in a wheelchair, while on stage.
Footage of this circulated around social media, which saw one fan writing the caption: “One of the most special moments of my life was seeing Patti Smith singing Because the Night strong and steady after fainting on stage greatest artist in the world < 3”. Check that out here.
“Patti Smith, 78, after falling backwards and being knocked unconscious. Return to the Cultura Artística stage and delight everyone", another added.
Following this, Patti Smith has spoken about the current state of her health, via a post shared on her official Instagram account, attributing her issues to "post migraine dizziness".
“This is letting everyone know that I am fine. A grossly exaggerated account is being spread by the press and social media", Smith wrote.
“I had some post migraine dizziness. Had a small incident, left the stage, and returned 10 minutes later and talked to the people, told them I was fine and sang them ‘Wing’ and ‘Because the night’. I was checked out by an excellent doctor and was absolutely fine. Please do not accept any other story".
She added: "With all the strife in the world, this explainable incident does not merit so much attention. Thank you everyone for your concern. Trust me I am fine".
Patti Smith is performing these dates in support of her Soundwalk Collective, which is titled: 'CORRESPONDENCES Vol 1', a project which “traverses a wealth of geographies and their natural environments, where the artists have uncovered sonic steps left by poets, filmmakers, revolutionaries and impact of climate change".
Last year, the singer was taken to hospital with a "sudden illness", having been set to perform at the Duse Theatre in Bologna. However, she insisted that she was in "good health", having been later discharged.
