Paul McCartney has backed Joe Cocker for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025.
Cocker, who passed away in December 2014 aged 70, has been nominated for this year's class of inductees, in a shortlist which also includes Oasis, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, The Black Crowes, Outkast, Billy Idol, Soundgarden, The White Stripes, Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Mariah Carey, Mana and Phish.
Beatles legend, McCartney has been inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, first as a member of the Fab Four in 1988, before being inducted again as a solo artist, 11 years later.
According to Billboard, Paul McCartney has now backed Cocker for an induction, calling the 'Unchain My Heart' singer, a "great man".
"Joe was a great man and a fine singer whose unique style made for some fantastic performances", McCartney wrote. "He sang one of our songs ‘With a Little Help From My Friends,’ a version produced by Denny Cordell which was very imaginative...".
"All the people on the panel will be aware of the great contribution Joe made to the history of Rock and Roll", McCartney added. "And whilst he may not have ever lobbied to be in the Hall of Fame, I know he would be extremely happy and grateful to find himself where he deserves to be amongst such illustrious company".
