Paul McCartney has talked about John Lennon’s departure from The Beatles and how he never truly believed that Yoko Ono was the one to blame.
The Beatles legend who had issues with Lennon after he left the iconic band in 1969, recounted the very moment he told the rest of the group that he had decided to quit the band for good.
McCartney revealed to Howard Stern in a new SiriusXM interview, “There was a meeting where John came in and said, ‘I’m leaving the group.’ And looking back on it, he’d reached that stage in his life. We all had”.
But while it was widely believed that Yoko Ono may have played a key role in Lennon’s decision to depart, McCartney maintained that her “intrusive” nature was due to her intense relationship with Lennon.
“Even though we thought she was intrusive because she used to sit in on the recording sessions and we’d never had anything like that. But looking back on it, you think, ‘The guy was totally in love with her. And you’ve just got to respect that.’ So we did. And I do”, he admitted.
Discussing his new record, ‘Egypt Station’, he revealed that the title was inspired by one of his own paintings, “I did a painting that kind of had Egyptian-y stuff in it because I like Egyptian writing”.
‘Egypt Station’ will be released tomorrow.
