Paul McCartney has recently spoken about the biggest mistake that Oasis made in their career. McCartney recently responded to the band’s claims back in 1996 that they would be “bigger than The Beatles.”
In an interview with MTV back in the ’90s, Gallagher apparently made the claims as a riff on John Lennon’s infamous comments about the Beatles being bigger than Jesus.
In a new interview with Q, Paul McCartney said “Oasis were young, fresh and writing good tunes,” adding that “I thought the biggest mistake they made was when they said ,‘We’re going to be bigger than The Beatles’. I thought ‘So many people have said that, and it’s the kiss of death.”
Sir Paul continued by saying “Be bigger than The Beatles, but don’t say it. The minute you say it, everything you do from then on is going to be looked at in the light of that statement.”
Paul McCartney is currently on tour to promote his new collection Pure McCartney, which is set to release next month on June 10th. The 67 track collection features Paul’s greatest solo, Wings and Fireman compositions from over the years.
