Paul McCartney played a number of private concerts at smaller venues recently. On July 23rd in Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios, fans were banned from using their smartphones.
The reason for the mobile ban, a documentary of the performance has premiered on Spotify. The film, Under the Staircase, was teased on its social media platforms ahead of its release. Macca played a 23-song set that featured music from throughout his career, including several from his upcoming release. In attendance were celebrity guests Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Nile Rodgers.

McCartney also took a walk across the infamous Abbey Road strip prior to his performance. Made famous by the Beatles on the iconic album cover, the crosswalk has been reenacted by countless fans. The Beatles’ Abbey Road photo shoot took place on August 8, 1969.

Earlier this Summer, McCartney played a shorter, surprise concert in a Liverpool pub, which was taped for his episode of James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke.” These dates were ahead of his “Freshen Up” tour, his first shows following the release of his new studio album, Egypt Station. The tour consists of 25 dates in Canada, the U.K., Europe and Japan.
