Beatles star Paul McCartney has been gifted a Brazil football shirt from the late legendary footballer Pelé.

The football shirt had been signed by Pelé back in 2019, who had intended to give to the musician.

However, the chance never materialised, and Pepito Fornos, Pelé’s long time manager and his sister Luiza Nascimento found a way to get the shirt to McCartney.

“keep the ball rolling” – Pelé’s sweet message to Paul

Paul McCartney was presented with the shirt ahead of his second show in Sao Paolo as part of his South American leg of his ‘Got Back’ World Tour.

The musician received this shirt ahead of his second stadium show in Sao Paolo, at the Allianz Parque Stadium, home of Palmeiras Football Club, earlier this week.

In a photo, McCartney can be spotted holding the shirt which read, “Paul, keep the ball rolling. I love you. Pelé”. McCartney himself said in a statement that he would “treasure” this gift from Pelé.

Paul McCartney also holds the record for the most tickets sold by and international artist in the country, thanks mainly to his show at Rio’s Maracana stadium in 1990, where he performed in front of 184,000 people.

It also broke box office records, and set a new world record for the largest concert audience.

It also emerged that a couple managed to get engaged during a soundcheck ahead of Paul McCartney’s show in Chile as part of this tour.

The couple were also holding a sign aloft which read: “Paul: Give us a handshake and we’ll get married”.

The singer then invited the couple onto the stage, where Yamil Alamo knelt down and proposed to his long term partner of 6 years Leonoro Pereira in front of McCartney.

A three time World Cup winner, Pelé is considered on of the greatest players to ever play football. He passed away in 2022 aged 82.
