Pulp have announced their comeback in a big way with a brand new album, 'More', and have previewed it with the festival-ready track, 'Spike Island'.

The band had previously hinted that a possible comeback was  on the horizon, have agreed a new record deal with Rough Trade back in December. They had previously reunited in 2023 for their first live shows since 2012.

Now, Pulp are to release their first album in more than two decades with 'More', which will arrive on Friday June 6. Produced by James Ford, the album was also recorded and mixed at Orbb Studio in Walthamstow E17.

'More' is also dedicated to late Pulp bassist, Steve Mackay, who passed away in November 2023 aged 56. More on that story from Nova here.

"a lifetime"

Speaking this morning to BBC 6 Music, the Cure confirmed that the new album was on the horizon, saying that “the record has been done for a while” while adding that the wait between records felt like “a lifetime”, before being completed in three weeks.

“[Playing live] was a big influence on it – that we played and the songs came back to life,” frontman Jarvis Cocker said. “We did play one new song towards the end of the tour and no one threw stuff at us or left to go to the bar’

“We chose to do it quickly… it wanted to come out".

Previewing this album, Pulp have released the single, 'Spike Island', which sees Cocker reflecting on life at a point of great change, as he sings the following lyrics: “Dead in my tracks/ I was heading for disaster, then I turned back. The universe shrugged, shrugged and moved on”.

Back in February, Pulp announced a new UK and Ireland arena tour, which will see them come to Dublin's 3Arena on June 10. Find out full details from Nova here.
