Queen were among the winners of the 2025 Polar Music Prize.

The much loved rock band who were originally fronted by the late Freddie Mercury, until his death in 1991, were among the winners of the award, alongside Herbie Hancock, and Barbara Hannigan.

Along with Hancock and Hannigan, Queen join famous recipients of this award, including Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Bruce Springsteen, Ennio Morricone, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder and Patti Smith.

Last year's winners were Nile Rogers and Finnish composer/conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.

The Polar Music Prize was set up in 1992, honouring stars who have gone on to make a "pioneering music legacy" for themselves. It was founded by ABBA's manager Stig Anderson, and would normally honour one act in popular music, and another in classical.

However, this year, they decided to make an exception, with Queen, Herbie Hancock and Barbara Hannigan getting the nod this time around. This year's award ceremony takes place in Stockholm on May 27.

In other news, last month, Queen frontman, Brian May blasted the "monstrously arrogant" tech companies in their use of AI amid the changes to copyright laws planned by the British Government. More on this here.
