One of the most recognisable voices on Irish radio, musician and broadcaster Paul McLoone joined Radio Nova for two once-off three hour shows. “Paul McLoone’s Ultimate Playlist” on Radio Nova aired featured a playlist of classic Irish rock and alternative tunes, hand-picked by Paul and presented in his own inimitable style.

McLoone’s career in radio spans over three decades with influence across every major Irish station. His career began at BBC Radio Foyle in 1985 before moving to Dublin in the 90s to produce the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show. During his time there he co-created and co-wrote the comedy sketch series Gift Grub, together with Irish comedian Mario Rosenstock. After five years he took a break from Today FM, during which he worked freelance for RTE Radio 1 and 2FM, before returning to present his own multi award-winning radio show The Paul McLoone Show for 13 years.

McLoone has a string of awards to his name including almost a dozen IMRO Radio Awards across a variety of categories for both his role as radio presenter, and as organiser and presenter of the annual Choice Music Prize Awards. He has also been awarded a silver award at the New York Radio Festival.
After splitting in 1983, the Undertones chose to reform in November 1999, McLoone was asked to join the group and accepted. Paul became the new frontman and lead singer for the Undertones. His experience both as a musician and broadcaster has contributed to his keen ear for fresh talent, and his in-depth knowledge of the industry. This skill was recently called upon when he was invited to adjudicate Ireland’s Eurovision entries. Renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge on music he is also a regular contributor to RTE Radio One’s Arena, Claire Byrne, and Morning Ireland. Paul is renowned for discovering and nurturing a wealth of Irish talent over the years, giving a national platform to new Irish groups like Fontaines D.C. long before they became a household name.
