Beatles skin man, Ringo Starr has invited everyone to “spread peace and love” in celebration of his 81st birthday, next month. The invite is part of his “Peace and Love” birthday initiative, which he kicked off in 2008 for his 68th birthday.
A journalist asked the Yellow Submarine writer what he would like for his birthday, to which he replied, “Peace and love”. Ringo has kept the tradition up since then, inviting the world to think, say, or post #peaceandlove at 12o’clock, local time (wherever you are). The Beatles’ drummer asked people around the world “to fulfil his birthday wish and encircle the planet in a wave of Peace and Love”.
Ringo shared a video message on Monday, “inviting everyone who wants to join the peace and love celebration for my birthday at noon your time wherever you are, 7-7-21. You can post it, you can say it, you can even think it – but it would be really cool if you go ‘Peace and Love’ at noon on my birthday – so let’s spread peace and love on my birthday – c’mon everybody!”

Ringo usually meets with fans on his birthday, wherever in the world he is, since the tradition began in ’08. On July 7th of that year, the drummer organised a gathering with friends and fans in front of the Hard Rock Café in Chicago. Ringo passed cupcakes out to the crowd, joining them for Peace and Love at midday.
However, as the pandemic grasped the globe, an in-person event was prevented, leaving Ringo to host a celebration online. Ringo’s Big Birthday Show featured unseen concert footage and unique performances by Starr, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Ben Harper and Dave Grohl, Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark Jr, Sheila E, and more.
Over 30 Peace and Love events popped up around the world in 2019, with details on 2021’s regional gatherings found on Ringo’s Facebook page here. An event – both in person and on Zoom – will be hosted, this time, by fans.
Disney+ has announced plans to stream Peter Jackson’s new The Beatles: Get Back documentary. The Beatles film will focus on the making of the band’s last studio album Let It Be, and will showcase their final concert as a band, on London’s Savile Row rooftop, in its entirety.
Meanwhile, the drummer has dropped his legal battle against the makers of the sex toy, Ring O. Ringo's lawyers had also argued that the brand was “identical in appearance, sound, connotation and pronunciation” to his name, which he has previously trademarked. However, Starr has dropped his complaint after an agreement was reached with the manufacturers.
