It appears that Ringo Starr has confirmed that Irish actor Barry Keoghan is to play him in the upcoming Beatles biopic, directed by Sam Mendes.

Earlier this year, director Sam Mendes confirmed plans to direct a biopic on each of the Fab Four members, telling “the story of the greatest band in history” via Sony Pictures Entertainment.

It had been rumoured that Irish actors Paul Mescal and Barry Keoghan were set to star as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr respectively, with Charlie Rowe to play the late George Harrison, with the late John Lennon to be played by Harris Dickinson.

More on this from Nova here.

Speaking recently about the future project, Sam Mendes said that it will be released at some point in 2028.

“I’ve got this huge Beatles project that I’m working on for the next several years. So this is the last time you’ll see me until some time in the middle of 2028″, he said.

Starr Hints At Keoghan Role

Following this, Ringo Star has seemingly confirmed that Barry Keoghan has been casted to portray him.

“Well, I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many”, the drummer said.

These films have also been granted full life story and music rights from Apple Corps Ltd, the Beatles, as well as the band’s families.

The release strategy for these films remains unclear, but it has been reported that the first film is to begin shooting in London next July.

Speaking of Barry Keoghan, the Banshees of Inisherin star has recently featured in a music video for Fontaines D.C’s new track, ‘Bug’.

Bug will feature on Fontaines D.C’s upcoming album, Romance, an album which has also see the band join forces with producer James Ford.
