As coronavirus vaccines continue to roll out around the world, high-priority groups and older adults have begun to take their shots. Among these ‘senior citizens’ are some of the world’s biggest stars, including some very notable names from the world of rock.
Ireland is currently under Level 5 restrictions and has been since midnight on the 30th of December 2020. Whether to lower restrictions, or keep them at the current Level 5, Ireland’s road out of COVID will be reviewed on April 5th. With outdoor gatherings still banned in the country, rock concerts and festivals will be kept on hold for the foreseeable future.
However, some form of live concerts could be returning to the US by this coming Autumn, according to DR Fauci. Last month, the Chief Medical Advisor said: “sometime in the fall of 2021, people can feel safe performing onstage, as well as people in the audience”. Many rock stars have already received at least one shot of the vaccine, some of whom have upcoming gigs on the horizon.
Ozzy Osbourne, 72, revealed he has had the vaccine on British talk show, Loose Women, where he said he “felt relieved” after receiving his first shot, despite describing it as like “being stabbed”. Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis, 85, had his COVID-19 vaccination on New Year’s Eve. Eavis said it would be “wonderful” to have the majority vaccinated “before June and, celebrate next summer in proper ‘Glastonbury style’”.
KISS frontman, Paul Stanley shared his second shot of the vaccine on February 16th, saying he is “grateful and THRILLED”. Shock rock star, Alice Cooper got his jab in Goodyear, Arizona, on February 9th and according to azcentral, he signed autographs and thanked healthcare workers while at the hospital.
Willie Nelson received his vaccine on January 13th and shared the news on his Facebook page. The country rock star shared a post from Family Hospital Systems that showed pictures of him flashing the thumbs-up sign with the caption, “Getting your COVID vaccine is Willie cool!” Nelson wrote in his post, “Get your shot! Take care of yourself and others.” His wife shared the post on Twitter saying, “if anybody needs some good news today, @WillieNelson got his COVID vaccine”.
Eagles guitarist, Joe Walsh told reporters that he received his first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine in mid-January. The rock star said,“I’m a little disoriented but nonetheless effective. That arm is real sore, like I got punched in the arm, and just in general I feel like I need a nap. But that’s it. It’s good”.
