Roger Daltrey has confirmed that he will step down as the curator for the Teenager Cancer Trust gigs.
The Who frontman confirmed this news, stepping down from the role having acted as curator for the annual charity gigs for over twenty years.
Daltrey will leave his role as curator after this year’s set of shows, which will once again take place at the Royal Albert Hall.
This year’s edition of the shows which will be opened by Daltrey, will take place between March 18 and March 24.
March 18 and 20 will see Daltrey open the shows, with an evening of comedy scheduled in between.
Other acts performing at these shows will be Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, who will be supported by Blossoms on March 21, with the following two nights including performances from The Chemical Brothers and Young Fathers.
“turned their world upside down”
Having began in 2000, the benefit gigs, which took a break in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, have raised over £32 million in ticket sales, supporting those who have been battling cancer.
“The £32million raised from these concerts has been the foundation for the 28 specialised units within the NHS, as well as specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person when cancer has turned their world upside down”, Daltrey said on his final year as curator.
Kate Collins, the Chief Executive of the Teenage Cancer Trust paid tribute to Daltrey, “Quite simply, we would not be the charity we are without Roger and these shows and – more importantly than that – thousands of young people with cancer in the UK would not have had the specialist support and care they urgently need”.
On performing at this year’s edition of the shows, Noel Gallagher also added this.
“Teenage Cancer Trust continue to make a real difference to teenagers in what undoubtedly must be the most challenging years of their lives”, he said. “Having performed at the very first event back in 2000, it is a charity very close to my heart”.
Tickets for these shows will go on sale on Friday 12 January at 9am. Get your tickets here.
