Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll have called off divorce proceedings.

This comes a month after McIlroy had filed for divorce from Ms Stoll, after papers were submitted to a Florida court.

McIlroy’s team had also stated that the couple still remained keen to navigate their way through this difficult time as amicable and respectful as possible.

Rumours of their split had also been doing the rounds after she was not present as McIlroy competed at the Masters in Augusta in April.

McIlroy relishes “new beginning”

However, in a statement, Rory McIlroy has now confirmed that he and his wife Erica have “resolved” their differences, with divorce proceedings being called off.

“There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumour is a fool’s game”, McIlroy said. “Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together”.

“Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning”, he also added.

McIlroy first met Erica Stoll at the 2012 Ryder Cup.

She had helped him make his tee time for a Sunday singles match, after he overslept, having worked as the manager for the Championship Volunteer Operations in 2011.

The couple made their relationship official in 2015, keeping a degree of privacy surrounding their personal life, with Erica content with staying out of the limelight, and from the cameras.

Erica had also often been spotted travelling the world by her husband’s side at several major tournaments.

The couple have been married for seven years. They also share their daughter Poppy, who was born in September 2020.
