Actress Shannen Doherty had finalised her divorce just hours before her death, it has been confirmed.
Doherty who was renowned for her roles in TV shows Beverley Hills and 90210, passed away last Saturday following a long battle with breast cancer.
Two days later, Doherty was granted a posthumous divorce from her husband Kurt Iswarienko.
Court documents from Los Angeles County showed that the actress and her lawyer Laura Wasser had worked to finish this divorce before she died. Wasser has also handled the divorces of Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, and Britney Spears.
The couple’s divorce was granted by a judge earlier this week, having tied the knot in 2011. Iswarienko who is a photographer, was Doherty’s third husband. Other former spouses include Ashley Hamilton and Rick Saloman.
In the agreement, Shannen Doherty kept the couple’s home in Malibu, California, several cars, a Salvador Deli painting, and all earnings from her acting career.
As she has no children, it remains unclear as to whom her assets will go to.
“Heavy heart”
Shannen Doherty’s death was confirmed by her publicist Leslie Sloane earlier this week.
“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease”, she continued. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie”.
“The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace”.
Shannen Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2015, before revealing that she was facing stage four in an interview in 2020.
Doherty is perhaps best known for her role as Brenda Walsh in Fox’s Beverly Hills, starting in 1990. She went on to star in the supernatural series Charmed, where she played three witches working together to fight evil.
The actress also featured in films including cult classics Heathers, romantic comedies like Girls Just Want to Have Fun, as well as comedies from filmmaker Kevin Smith Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
