Minister for Health Simon Harris has told The Colm & Lucy Breakfast Show that further restrictions would not be imposed in the fight to contain the Coronavirus, but that the current measures are likely to remain in place for a few more weeks.
He said, “What’s highly likely tomorrow is that the National Public Health Emergency Team will recommend that we continue with the very strict restrictions. It’s very clear.”
The minister also said he’s unsure if the restrictions will be lifted in time for the usual June start date of the Leaving Cert.

Mr Harris’ comments come as more than 2,500 gardai have begun operating over 50 checkpoints nationwide between now and the Bank Holiday as part of Operation Fanacht.
People found outside their home without a “reasonable excuse” will be given one chance to comply with garda instructions, but will then face a fine of up to €2,500.
