Simple Minds are set to embark on an extensive North American tour this spring, marking a long-awaited return to stages across the U.S. and Canada. The tour will see them joined by fellow icons of the ‘80s, Modern English and Soft Cell, in what promises to be an electrifying celebration of a defining era in music.
"Been a while but absence makes the heart grow fonder," remarks Jim Kerr, frontman of Simple Minds. "Simple Minds are ecstatic at the prospect of touring so extensively in the U.S. and Canada this coming spring."
The tour will commence May 16 in Ridgefield, Washington, and traverse the continent with stops in cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Phoenix, and Houston, before concluding June 22 in Noblesville, Indiana. General ticket sales open Friday, Jan. 31 at 10AM local time. Full details are available at www.simpleminds.com/tour.
This tour arrives at a milestone moment in Simple Minds’ legacy, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of their breakthrough success. "Don't You (Forget About Me)" became an international sensation in 1985, propelling their album Once Upon a Time to gold certification and securing them a place on the stage of Live Aid.
That same year, the track appeared solely on The Breakfast Club soundtrack, a fact that has now been addressed with the release of an expanded reissue of Once Upon a Time—which, at last, includes the band’s most famous anthem.
"Hindsight is a glorious thing!" says Kerr. "Forty years on and it now feels right for Simple Minds to have 'Don't You (Forget About Me)' included in this classy new nine-track edition of Once Upon a Time."
In addition to the tour and reissue, Simple Minds are the subject of a new documentary, Simple Minds: Everything Is Possible, currently streaming in the UK via BBC iPlayer. A North American release date has yet to be confirmed.
Their latest studio album, Direction of the Heart (2022), remains their most recent full-length work, though they have since unveiled a new single, "Your Name in Lights."
