Simpsons’ writer Jay Kogen has denied Duff McKagan’s claims that he was the inspiration behind the cartoon comedy’s Duff Beer brand.

Last week, Guns N’Roses’ bassist Duff McKagan reiterated claims that the iconic Duff beer was named after him.

McKagan had previously stated this in his 2011 autobiography, ‘It’s So Easy And Other Lies’, writing that the: “production company working on a new animated series” contacted him in 1988/89 to ask if they could use the name ‘Duff’ for a band of beer in the show”, in reference to his reputation as being a “big drinker”.

In a new interview, Duff McKagan once again echoed these claims.

“So I was Duff, the King of Beers. But this is 1988, 1989 and our management, I remember they called me and said some arthouse-like cartoon wants to use your name as the beer, like a college arthouse cartoon. There weren’t any adult cartoons at this point”, he said.

“it’s a synonym”

However, original Simpsons writer and producer Jay Kogen insisted that they named the beer Duff, for an entirely different reason.

“We named it Duff because it’s a synonym for butt, tushy, booty and so on,” he said. “Duff is a beer for people who sat on their fat ass all day”, stated Kogen.

“It’s very weird this Duff McKagan guy wants to claim credit for Duff Beer,” he added. “He had zero to do with it”.

Kogen also insisted that The Simpsons writer and producers did not know any members of Guns N’Roses apart from frontman Axl Rose at the time.

Speaking of the band, Duff McKagan had also hinted that Guns N’Roses have new music to release very soon.

“Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely”, insisted McKagan when asked if the band would release new music in the future.

“There’s new material. I don’t know how we’re gona put it out. I think that’s a question too. Like, do you put out a record? Do you just keep putting out singles? I don’t know what the right answer is there in this day and age”.
