Mary Lou McDonald has initiated legal action against RTÉ.
The Sinn Féin leader has lodged papers with the High Court in what’s believed to be an allegation of defamation against the national broadcaster.
At this point, little is known about the nature of Ms. McDonald’s legal action against RTÉ.
Given the fact it’s now effectively before the courts, neither party is commenting on the matter, but RTÉ News published an online article on Tuesday to say that while it’s not yet confirmed what the legal proceedings specifically relate to, “it’s understood the action relates to a radio interview about a rally organised by the National Women’s Council outside Leinster House in early March.”
The Sinn Féin leader’s legal team got the ball rolling by lodging the necessary papers with the High Court.
She is being represented by Dublin based law firm, McCartan and Burke Solicitors, who list defamation as one of their many areas of practice.
