Smashing Pumpkins say ‘goodbye’ to producer and colleague

Smashing Pumpkins are switching things up for 2012, as longtime producer and colleague Kerry Brown has announced via Twitter that he’s no longer jamming with the alternative rock band. As reported by Hipsters United, a blog about everything Pumpkins, frontman Billy Corgan told “several associates of a split between himself and Brown early in November, with Corgan saying to one friend blogger that there will be ‘no relationship moving forward’ between Brown and the band.”

Just last month, things seemed fine and dandy between Corgan and Brown, as the two rocked out together in the Smashing Pumpkins’ hometown of Chicago at the Riviera Theatre. At the Oct. 14 show, Brown’s rock band Catherine met up with Corgan onstage to play two songs during the encore.

As for Brown’s past work with the Smashing Pumpkins, the producer made significant contributions on Corgan’s Teargarden by Kaleidyscope series of digital releases, directed the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club earlier this year, mixed bonus tracks for the recent, high-profile reissues of Smashing Pumpkins albums Gish and Siamese Dream, played drums in Corgan’s supergroup Spirits in the Sky and helped run the Pumpkins’ official Twitter account (Brown and Corgan don’t even follow each other on Twitter anymore), among other contributions, states Hipsters United. Hopefully these guys patch things up, because they sure have a lot of history together.

Coming on the heels of the Pumpkins’ reissues of 1991’s Gish and 1993’s Siamese Dream albums last month, Corgan says to expect the band’s new album, Oceania, to arrive in spring of 2012. Check out what Corgan has to say about the re-mastered sparkle of Gish and Siamese Dream, here.
