The Smashing Pumpkins have opened up an application for those interested in becoming the band's new guitarist.

Sharing this application via social media, the Smashing Pumpkins who consist of singer Billy Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and guitarist James Iha, are looking for an additional guitarist to join them as a fourth member of the band.

This comes after previous guitarist Jeff Schroader had left the band back in October, having joined in 2007.

“The opportunity seemed to have come out of nowhere. I was at UCLA working on my doctorate in comparative literature when a close friend messaged me and said the Smashing Pumpkins were looking for a guitar player”, Schroeder wrote.

“Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path. I want to thank Billy [Corgan], Jimmy [Chamberlin], James [Iha], and Jack [Bates] for being both wonderful bandmates and even better friends. I will absolutely miss sharing the stage with you”.

Smashing Pumpkins Seek New Guitarist

Anyone interested in becoming the latest member of the Smashing Pumpkins has been asked to send their resume and materials to the band's management company.

The successful candidate is likely to make their Smashing Pumpkins debut when Billy Corgan and co support Green Day on their The Saviours Tour later this year.

The band will also join forces with Weezer for a major UK and Ireland tour later this year. More on that from Nova here.
