Aslan singer, Christy Dignam passed away in June after a long battle with illness. He was 63 years old.
Dignam was placed under palliative care back in January. The singer spent the last few months of his life in the care of his family at his home in Finglas.
He was diagnosed with a rare blood condition Amyloidosis in 2013.
“connect with his fans on a deeper level”
This celebration has been organised following a myriad of request from fans and artists alike who called for a night to come together to honour Christy Dignam and his legacy.
It is being supported by the singer’s family.
Confirming the news regarding this late Aslan frontman’s special concert, Christy Dignam’s widow Kathryn had this to say.
“Christy loved Vicar Street. It was a place where he felt at home and where he could connect with his fans on a deep level”, Kathryn Dignam stated.
“We are so grateful to everyone who is helping to make this celebration a reality”.
Back in September, the inaugural ‘More Than That’ festival took place in Naas, which included the Christy Dignam Recovery Champion Award
This event aims to “shine a light” on recovery and those recovering from addiction. More on that here.
This year also saw Christy’s band Aslan release their final ever studio recording in honour of the singer, a cover of ‘The Fields Of Athenry’. Check that out here.
