An additional 400 million euro will be announced for Irish sports in the coming weeks.

The government says funding for athletes and facilities will top 500 million euro in advance of the next Olympic Games in 2028.

September’s announcement will include around 250 million for sports capital and around 120 million for large scale projects, including stadiums and regional sports centres.

Sport Ireland’s High performance programme will go from 25 to 30 million euro a year.
