John Squire shared a new piece of artwork in honour of his former Stone Roses bandmate, Mani.
The late musician, whose full name was Gary Mounfield, passed away last month aged 63. It has been recently confirmed that Mani had died in his sleep from "respiratory issues" linked to his long standing lung condition, emphysema.
It was also confirmed that a special service would will take place at Manchester Cathedral on Victoria Street next Monday (December 22), beginning at 11.30am. Following this, a "private committal service" will be held for family and close friends of the late musician. More on this story here.
But now, former Stone Roses' guitarist John Squire has shared a new image of a piece of art in Mani's honour.
Squire, who is also a published artist, has shared artwork in honour of Mani, which appears to reference his 'Spike Island' artwork from 1990, featuring a new canvas design of numerous squares, painted in different colours. They also feature the letters in Mani's name, interspersed with some stars, in the musician's honour.
Reacting to this, one fan said: “Wow. That is a truly beautiful painting full of love… he would absolutely LOVE that boss.” Another said: “Mani!❤️".
Commenting on Reddit, one fan did go on to suggest that the painting should be available to buy as a print: “I’d happily buy one for charity".
At the time of writing, John Squire did not comment on the artwork, or share any further information. See the artwork in full here.
Following his death in November, tributes were paid to Mani from many household names in the world of music, including from John Squire, former Primal Scream bandmate Simone Butler, Liam Gallagher, Ian Brown and Rowetta.
In a statement, Mani's brother Greg said that he died “peacefully at his home in Heaton Moor” in Greater Manchester, before going on to describe him as a “beloved husband to the late Imelda [and] the much loved father to George, Gene and Joe”, as well as “a loved son-in-law, nephew, cousin and good friend to many".
