Over 800 thousand homes remain without power as a result of Storm Eowyn.

A status red warning remains in place for most of the country, with seven counties now under an orange level alert.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry and Limerick are now under a status Orange warning, as strong winds resulting from Strom Eowyn begin to abate. However, a red warning remains everywhere else, including Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow.

There is significant destruction and disruption across the country. 715,000 homes and businesses are without power, with ESB networks saying it’s ‘unprecedented’ and that it could be ‘well into next week’ before everyone is back on the grid.

Dublin Fire Brigade dealt with many calls relating to trees falling on roads and on cars, while a scaffolding collapsed in Harolds Cross, and the temporary ice rink in Blanchardstown was completely ripped apart by strong winds.

Over 300 flights in and out of Dublin Airport have been cancelled, with the DAA advising intending passengers to keep in regular contact with their airlines for updates.

Public transport operators will gradually begin returning to service, once the red alerts have finished and safety assessments have been carried out. Passengers will experience significant disruption as services return.
