Yoko Ono and John Lennon met in London in the late sixties, and were married on this day in 1969, in Gibraltar. Their romance coincided with the disintegration of the Beatles and Lennon detailed this period in The Beatles in the track ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko’, recorded by Lennon and McCartney on April 14, 1969. Paul McCartney is famously blamed the Beatles break-up on Ono, while other members attributed it to an inability to co-operate. Newly-weds Ono and Lennon spent their honeymoon in Amsterdam campaigning for an international "Bed-In" for peace.

Released in June 1967, the album included songs such as "With a Little Help from My Friends", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", and "A Day in the Life". Pepper further departed from the conventional pop rock idiom of the time and incorporated balladry, psychedelic, music hall, and symphonic influences.
