Taoiseach Simon Harris has called on Irish hotels not to hike up their prices ahead of next year’s Oasis comeback shows.
This comes after Noel and Liam Gallagher announced that Oasis would return for a major comeback tour, including two shows in August 2025.
These shows form part of a major Oasis tour of Ireland and the UK, with tickets going on sale this Saturday at 8am.
“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised”, the band said. More on this from Nova here.
“great news to many music fans in Ireland” says Harris
Following confirmation of the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour, hotel rooms in the city were selling out, with remaining availability costing over €500 for one night.
Speaking about the announcement, Taoiseach Simon Harris lauded the tour, saying it will provide a welcome boost to the Irish economy.
“The decision of the Gallagher brothers to get back together will come as great news to many music fans in Ireland and across the world”, Mr Harris said. “The fact that they’ve chosen to play two major gigs in Croke Park is great news again for music fans, but also great news for the Irish economy”.
On the rising hotel prices across Dublin, Simon Harris said he hopes that everyone involves plays fair.
“I would encourage everybody to engage fairly in relation to this”, Mr Harris said. “The issues around price gouging, around hiking up things at major events, doesn’t actually help anyone, because it ends up giving our city, our country a bad reputation”.
“It is much more in the interest, I believe, of hoteliers and others to act responsibly in relation to this”, he added.
“Let people come to Dublin, let them have a good time and then say ‘I want to go back again’”.
According to some travel websites, it says that 98% of places to stay are unavailable for that weekend next August.
It has also been reported that this tour could prove to be very lucrative for the Gallagher brothers. Find out more on this here.
