Teaching unions are to join forces to demand that their members are priortised for vaccination.
The vaccine priority list was changed last week to an age based approach rather than focusing on vaccinating certain professions first.
The TUI, INTO and ASTI each began their two day annual conferences this morning.
The joint emergency motion will mandate unions to explore the possibility of industrial action should the Government refuse to priortise vaccinating teachers as originally planned
INTO President Mary Magner used her opening address to urge the Health Minister to reconsider last’s weeks decision.
”We had a promise from government we took in good faith, however the rug has been pulled from under us.”
TUI President Martin Marjoram said the decision to prioritise teachers for vaccination was reversed abruptly and disrespectfully.
”We have never sought to be advanced above those most vulnerable to infection or the most serious consequences thereof, but we must insist that commitments made on issues as sensitive as this be honoured.”
