The 60th anniversary of The Doors is to be marked with the release of a huge studio boxset, live album and an anthology.

Among these releases are  The Doors 1967-1971, a six-album audiophile vinyl package containing all the band’s studio albums, from 1967’s self-titled debut to 1970’s L.A. Womanand The Doors – Live in Detroit.

This edition will also include a quadruple album set which was previously issued as a double CD in 2000 as part of the Bright Midnight Archive series.

The releases mark 60 years since keyboardist Ray Manazarek met up with the late musician Jim Morrison for the first time at Venice Beach, CA, in the Summer of 1965.

Morrison’s skills as a poet and use of prose impressed Manzarek and the pair subsequently formed a band, with guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore, known as The Doors.

This release is titled The Doors 1967-1971, and is limited to 3000 copies.

Available via the Rhino and The Doors’ website, it will arrive on November 22, and on Record Store Day a week later (November 29).

The Doors To Release Special Anthology

The Doors will also release an anthology called, Night Divides The Day, which looks at the band, including a forward from Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic, and an afterword from conductor Gustavo Dudamel, music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Limited to 1,650 copies, the anthology is signed by the band’s surviving members Robby Krieger and John Densmore.

This package will also feature a 7″ single, including demo versions of Moonlight Drive, Hello and I Love You. More on this here.

Back in April, Simple Minds’ Jim Kerr was awarded a prestigious radio award for Best Documentary for his work on ‘Jim Kerr On Jim Morrison’. More on this here.

In January last year, The Doors sold their publishing catalogue, trademarks, master recordings, income and merchandise rights to Primary Wave Music.
