Last week Dublin celebrated 50 years since The Beatles’ first (and last) live show in Ireland, and now America’s preparing to do something similar in the New Year, with a star-studded tv special.

It was November 7th, 1963 that the Fab Four caused “riots” in the city centre with two short sets at The Adelphi Cinema in Dublin’s Middle Abbey Street.

A few months later, on February 9th 1964, John, Paul, George and Ringo made their first appearance on US television via The Ed Sullivan Show in front of an audience of 73 million people, but could barely be heard over the screaming girls in the studio audience -it was a moment which marked the official beginning of Beatlemania in the USA.

‘The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles’ will celebrate that historic night, 50 years on.

No details yet as to who’ll show up, but it’s being promised that “top artists” will perform Beatles’ songs on the tv special, which will be broadcast on the CBS network on February 9th 2014 at 8pm.
