The Cure have announced details of a new remix album, 'Mixes Of A Lost Album', a remix of their acclaimed comeback record, 'Songs Of A Lost World', celebrating the birthday of their frontman, Robert Smith.
The band had been teasing this record all week, and have now confirmed plans to release this remixed album, featuring 24 reworked tracks from 'Songs Of A Lost World', arriving on June 13. All proceeds from this album will also support the charity, War Child.
Robert Smith, who turns 66 on that same date, previously said: “Just after Christmas, I was sent a couple of unsolicited remixes of ‘Songs Of A Lost World tracks and I really loved them".
“The Cure has a colourful history with all kinds of dance music, and I was curious as to how the whole album would sound entirely reinterpreted by others", he continued. “This curiosity resulted in a fabulous trip through all eight songs by 24 wonderful artists and remixers and is way beyond anything I could have hoped for".
Smith added: “Giving our recording royalties from the project to War Child helps make ‘Mixes Of A Lost World’ an even more special release".
'Mixes Of A Lost Album', will be available as triple LP/CD/cassette deluxe editions, and will include both the 'Artists' & 'Remixers' tracks.
Making up the three LP record, will be three half speed mastered 180g heavyweight black bio vinyl LPs, a tri-gatefold printed sleeve, and a large foldout poster; the triple deluxe CD has an eight-panel digi-sleeve and includes a foldout poster; the limited edition three cassette set has individually printed o-cards and obi-strip and is exclusive to The Cure store.
The 'Remixers' tracks will only feature as a black vinyl double LP with a gatefold sleeve. It will contain a double CD in a six-panel digisleeve, featuring a limited edition double cassette with individually printed o-cards and obi strip, as well as a foldout CD poster. They are also available via The Cure Store.
It will feature the likes of Four Tet, Mogwai and Deftones' Chino Moreno. It has already been previewed by Paul Oakenfield's remix of 'I Can Never Say Goodbye', and Four Tet's 'Alone', which you can check out below.
Back in November, Robert Smith also said that a tour was likely for the Cure in 2025. More on this here.
Earlier this month, Blink-182's Mark Hoppus claimed that Smith once tried to make out with him. Find out more on this here.
