The legendary Patti Smith and her Band will celebrate the 50th anniversary of her seminal album Horses this year with a live performance of the full album at the 3Arena in Dublin.

Now 78 years of age, the New Yorker will lead her band through her debut album recorded in 1975.

Smith will be accompanied by original group members Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty, along with keyboardist and bassist Tony Shanahan, a part of her Band for thirty years.

Jackson Smith also joins on guitar.

Shows have been set for seven cities in Europe: Dublin, Madrid. Bergamo, London, Brussels, Oslo and Paris.

Nine cities in the U.S.: Seattle, Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.

Opening with an anthem declaration of personal responsibility – “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine” – folded within Van Morrison’s classic Gloria.

A poet and visual artist, Smith had begun improvising her unique blend of song and imagery two years earlier, appearing on cabaret stages and small clubs in New York with the support of guitarist Kaye and pianist Richard Sohl.

John Cale, formerly of The Velvet Underground, was chosen by the band to produce Horses, and it was released on 10 November, the death date of one of Smith's most important influences, the poet Arthur Rimbaud.

The album features a unique cover of Van Morrison’s classic Gloria and Smith’s songs such as BirdlandRedondo BeachFree MoneyKimberly, and Break It Up.

Horses helped lay the groundwork for punk and was the beginning of a long musical career that resonates even greater today. The album achieved The Charles Cros Award while being included the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Grammy Hall of Fame.
