The Smashing Pumpkins have reportedly received more than 10,000 applications for the new guitarist position.
This comes after the band launched an open application for an additional guitarist, following the departure of long time string player Jeff Schroeder last October.
Anyone who was interested in the role had to send their resume and materials to the Smashing Pumpkins' management company.
The advert was shared by the band via their Instagram account. Check that out here.
Today, the Smashing Pumpkins have once again taken to social media to say that “the band has received over 10,000 submissions for the position of an additional guitarist”.
They also added, “Currently, there are 8 people working full-time to review each and every one".

Last October, Jeff Schroeder confirmed that he would be leaving The Smashing Pumpkins, after 16 years with the band.
“The opportunity seemed to have come out of nowhere. I was at UCLA working on my doctorate in comparative literature when a close friend messaged me and said the Smashing Pumpkins were looking for a guitar player”, Schroeder wrote.
He continued, “The opportunity seemed to have come out of nowhere. I was at UCLA working on my doctorate in comparative literature when a close friend messaged me and said the Smashing Pumpkins were looking for a guitar player”.
Speaking about the “incredible memories” that he has built over the years, Jeff Schroeder also explained that it is time to move his career in a new direction.
He concluded, “Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I’ve decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path. I want to thank Billy [Corgan], Jimmy [Chamberlin], James [Iha], and Jack [Bates] for being both wonderful bandmates and even better friends. I will absolutely miss sharing the stage with you”.
