The Who have fired their drummer Zak Starkey, according to reports.

A statement which was shared to The Mirror, via a spokesperson for The Who, has said that it was their "collective decision to part ways with Zak", and comes following the recent "round of shows at the Royal Albert Hall".

“They have nothing but admiration for him and wish him the very best for his future", the spokesperson added.

Sources close to The Mirror have also claimed that this split was “acrimonious to say the least”, adding that the band had “few issues with the drumming… and the standard wasn’t as high as everyone wanted".

At the time of writing, the Who were yet to comment on the matter.

As mentioned, The Who performance at this year's Teenage Cancer Trust at London's Royal Albert Hall.

These shows saw the band whose lead singer Roger Daltrey is a patron of, perform alongside a range of artists, including The Corrs, James Arthur, as well as the Sex Pistols with Frank Carter, along with Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Glen Matlock among others.

Despite stepping down as curator of the charity last year, Roger Daltrey has remained a patron since it was launched in 2000. More on this from Nova here.
