The Who will “definitely” return in 2025, according to guitarist Pete Townshend.

Townshend made this comments in a recent interview, where he said that the band will “definitely do something next year”.

In April last year, Townshend’s Who bandmate Roger Daltrey had played down the prospect of the band returning to the stage for a live tour, citing touring costs as a key factor.

While they had announced a UK and European tour, Daltrey had said that it was unlikely that the Who would embark on a US Tour. More on this from Nova here.

“definitely do something next year”

Speaking to The Standard, Pete Townshend said that he has “met with Roger [Daltrey] for lunch a couple of weeks ago,” adding that they’re in “good form”.

He said: “We love each other. We’re both getting a bit creaky, but we will definitely do something next year”.

Townshend also added: “The album side of it… Roger’s not keen. But I would love to do another album and I may try to bully him on that. The last big tours that we’ve done have been with a full orchestra, which was glorious, but we’re now eager to make a noise and make a mess and make mistakes”.

Back in March, Pete Townshend had hinted that the Who could return for a huge farewell tour.

The musician had admitted that any final tour would be about finances, rather than honouring the band’s legacy.

“I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with the Who”, he explained. “If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money. My idea of an ordinary lifestyle is pretty elevated”.
