Two men have made a quick escape from the scene of a robbery after they sabotaged their own attempt to raid a McDonald's. The break-in happened at one of the Dublin restaurants in East Wall early this morning. Store Street Gardaí are investigating the robbery.
The incident occurred at around 4am when two men smashed through a window to force their entry. The novice burglars then tried to pry open the restaurant's safe using an electric saw, but the smoke from the machine set off the fire alarm.
Dublin Fire Brigade then rushed to the scene, disturbing the raid and as a result the thieves had to flee. Nothing was stolen, but detectives say their investigations are ongoing. A spokesperson for McDonald's says the restaurant is reopening and it will be business as usual.
