Three Dublin hospitals are expected to stop providing trauma care, the Sunday Business Post reports.
Proposed new measures would see local trauma units responsible for treating less serious injuries - and two new designated units for major trauma patients, one to be based in Dublin and one in Cork.
At the moment, the Mater hospital, Connolly hospital, St. Vincents, St. James, Beaumont and Tallaght hospital all provide trauma services in the capital.
If the new measures are implemented, it would mean patients who have been in car crashes or had serious injuries, broken limbs and major wounds will be no longer treated at some hospitals.
The Sunday Business Post reports that a number of regional hospitals including Cavan, Naas, Tullamore and Portlaoise will also stop taking trauma patients.
The new move by Health Minister Simon Harris aims to centralise care and improve outcomes.
