Every day on Radio Nova, just before 11am, we play a couple of songs key to “today in music history” Have a listen! But for now – here’s some light reading and watching. July 6th in Music History looks like this.

1957, John Lennon and Paul McCartney met for the first time at The Woolton Church Parish Fete where The Quarry Men were appearing.

1967, Pink Floyd made their first appearance on BBC TV music show Top Of The Pops to do their new single 'See Emily Play'.

1972, David Bowie appeared on  Top Of The Pops playing his new single 'Starman', his first hit since 1969's 'Space Oddity' three years before. This was real eye opener performance and one where if you saw it happen, you’d remember where you were!

1980, Bob Marley brings a little bit of Jamaica to Dublin when he plays his only Irish show ever at Dalymount Park. (Pic Source: Twitter/bfcDublin)Bob Dalymount

2001, A pair of Sir Elton John's sandals was set to become the most expensive shoes in history when they went under the hammer for charity, over 20K!

2002, George Harrison's widow Olivia put the couple's home up for sale for £20m saying she couldn't bear to live with the memories of the attack by schizophrenic Michael Abram who broke into the house in 1999.

2012, Carol Hawkins, the former personal assistant of U2 bassist Adam Clayton was jailed for seven years for embezzling 2.8m euros of his money. Hawkins was convicted on 181 counts of theft from the bassist's bank accounts over a four-years.

2020,  American singer/songwriter Charlie Daniels died age 83 of a hemorrhagic stroke.
