Every day on Radio Nova, just before 11am, we play a couple of songs key to “today in music history” Have a listen! But for now – here’s some light reading and watching. May 8th in Music History looks like this.

1965, The filming of the promotional film for Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues took place at the side of the Savoy Hotel in London. In the film, Dylan, who came up with the idea, holds up cue cards for the camera with selected words and phrases from the lyrics.

1970, The Beatles twelfth and final album, Let It Be was released, (it was recorded before the Abbey Road album, and was originally to be called 'Get Back')

1984, Roger Waters released his first solo album The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking. Again a total concept album, with ideas that Roger had been developing since 1977

1996, A Los Angeles judge ruled against Tommy Lee and wife Pamela Anderson in their bid to keep Penthouse magazine from publishing still photos from an X-rated home movie that was stolen from their home.

2006, The Rolling Stones called off their forthcoming European tour after guitarist Keith Richards underwent emergency brain surgery. The 62 year-old guitarist suffered "mild concussion" when he fell out of a coconut tree on holiday in Fiji.

2016, Price was back in the charts following his death. 2 albums were back selling like crazy. His 'Best of' and The 'Purple Rain' album.

1953, Born on this day, Alex Van Halen, Dutch-American musician, best known as the drummer and co-founder of the hard rock band Van Halen.

2022, Bono and Edge perform in a subway station in Kyiv as the war in Ukraine showing support to the country as the Russian invasion continued.
